The Resurrection

Tintoretto keeps traditional elements but uses them in novel ways. Christ still wears his shroud and holds his red-cross banner, but now they wave triumphantly in the wind. Instead of a sepulcher, he bursts forth from a mandorla, a staple of medieval art now transformed into a brilliant backdrop. The fingers of the right hand are formed as usual into the blessing gesture, but the more open palm and the arm as a whole register triumph more than blessing.
